Everytime there was a new high Priest. He built over
the top of the Altar of the Previous High Priest. He wanted
to be bigger and better. More Jade head dress. More feathers
and bigger alter.
Orginally these altars were plastered over with a
smooth surface. The were also bright colors
In't she Cute!!! What a great travel companion.
Climbing one of the Altars. They were solid because
they just kept making it wider and taller than before
The Mayan calandars were so accurate that they
were within four hours of our current calandar.
The hole in this rock was situated so that on June 21st
if your standing so as to look through the hole, the Sun
would shine straight through.

I liked what you said about the accuracy of the Myan calendar. Did you know that the Myan calendar ends December 21, 2012? 2012 is also when the next Solar Maxima is supposed to occur. . . So who knows, maybe 2012 will prove to be an interesting year. Maybe we will be visited by aliens, no? ;) J/k
Actually their calandar starts over every 52 years. That will be a new cycle on 12-21-12. Hopefully we will just start a new cycle. I am not ready for any major just yet.
Loved the pics and all the explainations. I think I'm good for Dec 21- 2012. I'm ready for Satan to be bound sooner than later. Glad you had so much fun.

what an amazing place. yes, curtis really was there. just behind the camera. i had to fight him more than once to get him in the picture. we should have taken two cameras. that was a big mistake. loved doing this trip with him for a pre anniversary trip. hope to share something like this with my own children some day. catherine
